A Love Letter to Bonanza: Finding My Place in the Water:

The Power of Women in the Lineup

There’s something incredibly powerful about watching women surf. It’s not just about riding waves—it's about reclaiming space, breaking silence, and moving with courage in an environment that hasn’t always felt welcoming to us. There’s a quiet revolution happening in the lineup, and being part of it is nothing short of transformative.

An Unexpected Shift

When I joined the Bonanza Collective retreat, I had no idea how deeply it would impact me. Surrounded by other women who shared the same love for the ocean, I finally felt seen. For the first time in a long while, I felt completely comfortable in the water. There was no pressure to perform, no judgment—only support, sisterhood, and shared joy.

This experience gave me a new sense of safety and confidence in my surfing. I learned to respect my own rhythm and to honor the process instead of rushing through it. In the stillness between sets, I found something far deeper than just technique or skill. I found connection, patience, and most importantly, trust in myself.

The Magic of Community

The idea of building a female surf community is truly magical. It reminds us that we don’t have to do this alone. We can lift each other up, celebrate every small victory, and create a space where every woman feels empowered to paddle out, take up space, and own her journey—whatever that may look like.

Amanda and Elin’s friendship was another source of inspiration during the retreat. Witnessing their bond made me reflect on and appreciate my own long-time friendships even more. My experience in Biarritz felt deeply local and authentic, filled with genuine connections that will stay with me. Even though I now live far away in Brazil, every person I met left a mark on me, each with something to teach or share.

Surfing as a Way of Being

Surfing, for me, has become so much more than a sport. It’s a form of healing, a practice in presence, and now—thanks to Bonanza—a path I get to walk with others who inspire me every single day. I am eternally grateful for this experience and for the women who made it so unforgettable.
